Newest project The Martin Family (The parents and Sisters of St Therese)

This is the newest of work for the Carmelites of Alhambra Ca.  It will be a companion to the recently completed Portrait of St Therese of The Holy Child Jesus.  It is a larger work 52x60 to accommodate  the 7 figures.  The first plan was to paint an individual Portrait of the parents (Louis and Zelie Martin) and the Sisters Celine, Marie, Leonie and Pauline as well as St Therese, painted separately to surround the main painting.  

3 of the Sisters are also Carmelites. One is a Visitandine Sister  the family is already Beatified and all are awaiting being Canonized. It is a rare and special privilege to paint this special family. In fact, a Blessing!  This painting will be historical and will be in the journey with the Family as it approaches Sainthood. The decision was made to include all in one painting, giving more impact visually and spiritually. 

I like the unity of the family. It is now in the siepia tones to get my tonal values in. Next will be color work. I think since the parents are the focal point, they will have the full color. (the Sisters will be kept "in muted colors")  I hope to have this completed by Oct 1st, (the Feast Day of St Therese)  The Fathers will be Concecrating the paintings Officially in a special Mass.  I am very humbled by this special opportunity to serve God and my Church!
