New Portrait

I thought I would share my current portrait that I am working on. I will be working in a mud pallet and will try to imitate very old photos that did not have very bright colors color. First, I did a detailed rendering to get my values, then I did a wash of Van Dyke Brown, Paynes grey, and burnt sienna. My color pallet consists of titanium white, zinc yellow, naples yellow and cadmium red for the light tones. Then I use yellow ochre, flesh and burnt sienna for middle tones. Lastly, I use van dyke brown, paynes grey and ultramarine blue for dark tones. I am a week into this painting. It is a 16x 20 oval and I am showing daily progressions in various steps. At his point I am working colors, but keeping them muted. My last step will be a first varnish and then I will do touch up color. Then a final glaze of about 6 coats. What I liked about this painting is all the complex shadowing (shadows within shadows) I especially like the reflective light in the eye and teeth.
